Thrills and chills abound in the latest Halloween trailer, which was released on Friday 8th June. The trailer gives us the first glimpse of returning heroine Laurie Strode and, of course, her murderous archnemesis, Michael Myers. From the looks of things, it could be just as frightening and fantastic as the first Halloween movie which was released in 1978.

The film will take place forty years after the original, removing the sequels from the series canon. It also completely ignores the reboot series. As the trailer shows us, Laurie (played again by Jamie Lee Curtis) is now a battle-hardened old woman who has been prepared for the return of Michael Myers. In fact, she admits to one character in the trailer that she has literally been praying for the monster to return, seemingly so she can have her revenge. This version of Laurie is not only older but clearly (and understandably) haunted by her past and extremely cynical. She’s not a naive high school student anymore.
Michael Myers looks as disturbing and horrific as ever and perhaps even more so, thanks to the modernity of the camera technology as well as the lighting effects. Nick Castle and stuntman/actor James Joyce Courtney, with the former handing the role down to the latter. If the scenes showing the trailer are any indication, we’re all in for one scary halloween.
The release of the trailer follows the unveiling of the very first photo stills from the film a few days ago. The film has been described by co-writer Danny McBride as a ‘reimagining’ of the franchise’s continuation, loosely following on from the events of the first film. There was a reboot series, consisting of two movies, both directed by Rob Zombie and released in 2007 and 2009. Unfortunately, both movies succumbed to poor critical reception, garnering a 25% and 19% for the first and second respectively.
The very first Halloween is famous not only for revamping the horror genre, but for being a low-budget movie of $300,000 earning a stunning $70 million internationally. It is now considered a classic.
This reimagining will be released on 19th October 2018 in the United States.
