What’s a gaming event these days without leaks ahead of time? A new Kirby game leaked before the Nintendo Direct scheduled for later today.
The leak comes from Nintendo’s Japan release schedule. ResetEra user Oracion noticed a thumbnail featuring Kirby in front of an overgrown (post-apocalyptic?) cityscape. The information was accidentally added to the calendar but has since been removed. Based on a translation from the text seen below, the potential title for the game is Kirby: Discovery of the Stars. However, this name is not set in stone. The leaked game art can be seen below.
Unfortunately, that’s all we know at the moment aside from the fact that the Kirby game leaked will have a physical and digital release. But, that’s not super surprising news considering the popularity of the character.
The last main Nintendo Kirby game, Kirby Star Allies, was released in 2018, which was followed soon after by Kirby Fighters 2 in 2019. Kirby made his first appearance back in 1992 on the Game Boy in Kirby’s Dream Land. Since then, the lovable pink character has made an appearance in over 30 games, including the Super Smash Bros. franchise.
The Nintendo Direct in question is scheduled for September 23rd at 3 PM Pacific / 6 PM Eastern / 11 PM UK (that’s September 24 at 8 AM AEST). It has a runtime of about 40 minutes, and it will highlight games coming this winter to Nintendo Switch. You can catch the whole stream here.
According to the information we have, Kirby: Discovery of the Stars will launch sometime in 2022. But hopefully, we’ll know for sure after the Nintendo Direct today.
