Minecraft has some games that are already quite far from their origins. In a recent broadcast by Jeff Gerstmann, he said that Microsoft is working on a new game in the Minecraft universe. Also, it wouldn’t be surprising if the new spin-off is Real-Time Strategy (RTS).
During his broadcast of “Video Gaming Done Right” on the Twitch platform, the journalist of Giant Bomb announced that Microsoft is working on a secret spin-off. He has already seen the first pictures of the game and has spoken to the relevant staff about it.
Minecraft Real-Time Strategy Game
If you think about how Minecraft meets Real-Time Strategy, you should remember Minecraft Dungeons, a great spin-off in the dungeon crawling. Gerstmann said that the game, which is in testing, features a Steve-like human-ish character that can command other characters to fight off typical Minecraft enemies:
“From the basic descriptions, and I got to see a couple of screenshots of it, it seems like a real-time strategy game – an RTS of sorts. But the difference is you’re controlling a Steve-esque unit on the field and ordering your units around in a third-person view. And you’re taking on Piglins and it’ll have a story and cut-scenes and all this other stuff.”
Microsoft is looking to expand the Minecraft franchise into newer and more diverse corners of the game world. The previous game, Minecraft Dungeons, looked great.
We may see more details about the RTS game during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, which will take place on June 12th.
“I don’t know if this is something that’s going to get announced at Microsoft’s event but there’s a new Microsoft spin-off in the works,” Gerstmann added. “Microsoft appears to be testing it out and putting it out under a code-name.”
We don’t know how much Microsoft cares about this potential spin-off or if it will come to which platforms. But given the game’s popularity, it’s hard to imagine that this Minecraft strategy game won’t be released anytime soon.
