Runescape, despite being one of the oldest MMOs – it’s been online for seventeen years, to be exact –is still alive and kicking. Even though it no longer attracts the same number of newbies as it did a decade and a half ago, it’s still a solid MMO. There are those who try Runescape for the first time because they find it enjoyable despite its lack of many of the quality of life features commonplace in today’s MMOs. These players want to see for themselves how one of the most important titles in MMORPG history plays like. And as newbies, they have to know how to farm gold in the most efficient way possible.
Skills to Make Money
If you’re one of those so-called newbies, then check out these gold-earning activities you can do in-game. Because, just like in any MMO, you’ll need the shiny stuff in Runescape. Lots of it.
There are lots of things players can do to earn gold, and it’up to you which ones you’d take up in the name of moneymaking. Think of it as having a day job, except in Gielinor. To be fair, all of them can be profitable, but some enable you to rake in more dough than others.
First and foremost is definitely mining. Just like in the real world, you’ll be mining for gold – albeit indirectly, as you’ll be mining for ore and coal, which you’ll then sell for Runescape gold. When mining ore, you can earn as much as 30K gold without breaking a sweat.
Fishing for Gold
Another good option for making money would be fishing. However, lobsters and swordfish are the only fish that will make you any real money. But hey, if fishing is your thing and you’d rather do something you actually like in order to earn gold, rather than forcing yourself to farm gold doing something you hate, then go for it.
The best fishing spots would be areas that are close to banks. Among these, the best areCatherby and the Fishing Guild.
After getting the fish you want to sell, you can either sell them raw or cook them first. Doing the latter will earn you even more gold.
Trees and Trading
Gold doesn’t grow on trees, but lumber is a great way to make gold in Runescape. In fact, cutting regular trees to gather regular logs already yields a sufficient amount of gold for beginning players.
Last, but definitely not least, would be buying and selling items. This isn’t a Runescape skill per se, as it doesn’t have any numerical level. Rather, it’s an in-game endeavor that’s solely determined by the player’s personal ability.Just as in other MMOs, the kind of trading in Runescape that is focused on making money is all about buying items that are cheap but highly sought-after, and then either selling them again at a higher price. If you buy raw materials and refine them into useful items, you will reap even greater profit than you would from simply reselling the materials.
This, of course, is easier said than done. Anyone who’s tried to do serious trading in other MMOs knows that knowledge in prices and player demand play a big role in succeeding in this particular activity. So if you want to try your hand at this have patience, be prepared to do a little bit of research, and expect some trial and error. You definitely won’t get this right at first, but when you do you’ll start earning a lot more.
Unlike other MMOs, making money in Runescape isn’t solely limited to a monster-killing grind. That means it’s up to you to decide how you’re going to earn your keep in Gielinor.
