A new Netflix trailer shows off their upcoming horror movie, A Classic Horror Story. Bloody-disgusting is reporting that Roberto De Feo and Paolo Strippoli will be directing, Netflix is touting it on Twitter; “Think the Italian Midsommar meets Texas Chain Saw Massacre.”
The new teaser massacres the senses with its redness and ear-piercing sound design. Looks promising. Take a look here. A Classic Horror Story will be available to watch on Netflix on July 14th.
Midsommar Massacre
Before directing A Classic Horror Story, Roberto De Feo previously directed The Nest, which revolves around a paraplegic boy and his mother who lives in an isolated mansion. The boy ends up meeting a girl, and I am sure you can see how it may play out from there. Paolo Strippoli is the other Italian gent who has had a handful of shorts written and produced. Both De Feo & Strippoli are also writers along with Lucio Besana, Milo Tissone. & David Bellini.
Texas Approved?
Anytime a new film like A Classic Horror Story gets compared to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, extra attention should be paid. What did catches the eye is that they attribute the comparison to Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The 1974 version always has the “The” at the beginning. Not sure if that’s an oversight on behalf of the person who posted the tweet, or maybe it was intentional. The trailer and the Tweet promise gore, which The Texas Chain Saw Massacre didn’t really have a lot of. Most of the gore is implied; what the trailer does remind one of is the Hostel movies and a little bit of Cabin Fever.
I hope I’m just overanalyzing A Classic Horror Story, and it actually delivers on what it’s selling. Still, there hasn’t been anything that I have seen that comes even close to doing what Tobe Hooper & Kim Henkel did back in the mid-’70s.
