The Pokemon Company and Nintendo have released a brand new Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet trailer showcasing a host of new information about the games’ diverging storylines, new Pokémon, new characters, and more from info on the Paldea region!
In Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, players will be enrolled in a special academy that varies depending on their version of the game, which will host an independent study project themed “A Treasure Hunt,” where they must explore the Paldea region to seek their own treasures and forge their own paths! It will be split into three different stories: the Victory Road/Gym Challenge, the Path of Legends, and Starfall Street!
Starfall Street: Take on the Rebellious Team Star!
In this storyline, players must take on the fearsome Team Star on their home turf of Starfall Street. Formed by the school’s most rebellious students and made up of several squads with their own bosses scattered across the Paldea region, these students are known as the class-cutting delinquents who cause trouble for all those around them by disturbing the peace and using pushy recruitment tactics to do whatever they want!
Team Star grunts will send out a relentless barrage of Pokémon to get in your way, which players must defeat in the brand new Auto Battles feature within the time limit to in order challenge their boss to a battle. One of these bosses was shown off in the new trailer, Meela, the boss of Team Star’s Fire crew, the Schedar Squad. Her signature Pokémon is a Torkoal.
The uniforms worn by the members of Team Star will differ depending on the version of the game you play, being either purple for the Violet version or reddish-orange for the Scarlet version.
The Victory Road: The Gym Test Awaits in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet!
Players can challenge the various Gyms scattered across Paldea, all managed by the Pokémon League. They must find their way to take down all 8 Gym Leaders and pass the Champion Assessment at the Pokémon League headquarters to achieve the coveted can earn the coveted Champion Rank. The player’s friend and guide, Nemona, will accompany them on the challenge.
At each Pokémon Gym, players must first pass a Gym Test before they can be allowed to challenge the Gym Leader, the contents of which are unique to each Gum. For instance, one of the Gym Leaders shown in the trailer, the Grass-type Gym Leader of Artazon, Brassius, offers a challenge that tests a player’s aesthetic tastes and requires them to find a special Sunflora among many.
Another new character shown off in relation to the Gym Challenge was Geeta, the chairwoman of the Pokémon League that operates Paldea’s Pokémon Gyms. She has achieved the Champion Rank herself and reigns supreme as the most skilled Trainer in all of Paldea. It is unknown at this time if players will have to battle her to achieve the rank themselves or simply complete the challenge.
The Path of Legends: The Search for the Hebra Mystica!
In this story, the upperclassmen Arven will join the player in search of rare ingredients called Herba Mystica. His research into healthy recipes for Pokémon has led him to seek out this rare ingredient, which is said to immediately restore health once eaten.
Unfortunately, they are all guarded by Titan Pokémon, bigger, stronger versions of normal Pokemon scattered throughout the region, and he’ll be asking you to help him out in taking them on!
Even More New Pokemon!
Right on the heels of the reveal of Grafaiai just last week, the trailer also showcased three brand new Pokémon: Klawf, Amrarouge, and Ceruledge!
Klawf was showcased as one of the Titan Pokemon players will encounter if they take on the Path of Legends storyline seen in the new Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet trailer. It is known as the Ambush Pokemon and can rotate its protruding eyeballs to see everything around them, eliminating all its blind spots, and latch upside down onto cliffs to ambush its prey from above. It is a pure Rock despite being a crab, appearing to be robotic, 4’3″ (1.3 m), 174.2 lbs. (79.0 kg), and will have the abilities Anger Shell and Shell Armor.
Next up, Armarouge is one of two version exclusives for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the other being its counterpart, Ceruledge, who both have similar appearances and types.
Armarouge boasts a set of armor that once belonged to a distinguished warrior, and is the source of the energy used for its Psychic-type moves, allowing it to use uses the psychic capabilities of this armor to control the fire within its body. It is known as the Fire Warrior Pokemon, is a Fire/Psychic type, 4’11” (1.49 m), 187.4 lbs (85 kg), and has the ability Flash Fire. It is reclusive to the Pokémon Violet version.
Ceruledge dons an old set of armor steeped in grudges from fallen spirits and wields blades made of fire and spectral essence. These blades transform into great swords to increase Ceruledge’s power in battle. It is the Fire Blades Pokemon, Fire/Ghost type, 5’3” (1.6 m), 136.7 lbs (62 kg), and also has the ability Flash Fire. It is exclusive to the Pokémon Scarlet Version.
Klawf is one the new Pokemon of the three that can be encountered in both Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.
Other News: Let’s Go! Feature and the Nintendo Switch – OLED Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Model!
The last bit of news showcased for the Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet trailer shows that players can have one Pokémon out and walk with them in the Paldea region throughout their journey outdoors, making use of the “Let’s Go!” feature to send that Pokémon off in whatever direction the player indicates. The Pokémon can independently pick up items in the area and have Auto Battles with nearby Pokémon.
Finally, on November 4, 2022, about two weeks before the official release of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, a new Nintendo Switch – OLED Model Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Edition will be available in stores, with art inspired by the upcoming games.
It will boast a glossy white dock showcasing the Legendary Pokémon Koraidon and Miraidon on the front and a design inspired by the series’ iconic Poké Ball on the back. The back of the console itself will be adorned with special illustrations of the three Pokémon players who can choose from as their starters – Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly – and the scarlet and violet-colored Joy-Con controllers will feature the school emblems of the Naranja Academy and Uva Academy.
Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet launch officially launch on November 18 on the Nintendo Switch family of consoles, and pre-orders are available now via the Pokémon Center UK, My Nintendo Store, and the Nintendo eShop.
