World War II stealth shooter Sniper Elite 4 is shipping soon so independent developer Rebellion, thought they would give an intro lesson to gamers on all that is new with this iteration of the franchise. The backdrop of the title features the recently emboldened Allied powers looking to capitalize on their recent North African victories by moving the theater of war to Italy. Brute force won’t be the key to winning this battle, although some stealth action will do the trick to “sow chaos in enemy ranks”.
The talking points are many for Sniper Elite 4, as it boasts the largest levels ever created in a World War II game and a campaign that can be completed with one or two players. The huge environments cover a gamut locales from the mountains, to quaint villages to forests to the splendors of Rome. There is little concern that the environment will just become wallpaper as they differ from the traditional WWII backdrop in that Italy has been largely untouched by the war at this point. As a result, the levels are not the crumbling rubble gamers have come to expect in the genre.
Tactics are also a large focus in Sniper Elite 4 as gamers will have to pick their moves based on observing the enemies and garnering intel from observation from afar or directly from the Italian resistance fighters. The tactical options also now include utilizing the environment as a weapon itself. In the trailer, the support for a raised platform lifting a cannon can be shot and destroyed sending the cargo plummeting on some unsuspecting bad guys. Add all new silent takedowns and distractions and those Nazi’s won’t know what hit them.
Another new addition to the game’s fourth installment is the inclusion of silent sub-sonic ammunition that makes far less noise when fired from your sniper rifle. This new feature to the sniper simulation leads to an even greater surgical precision of dealing death from hundreds of meters away.Just don’t get caught! An enemy spotter can call in artillery strikes on you and radio operators can call in waves of reinforcements to flood your position.
Sniper Elite 4 releases February 14, 2017, on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
