SEGA has officially provided a brand new update for the upcoming Sonic Origins collection, including a released date, a new animated trailer, and details regarding the special features and bonus content. The new Sonic Origins trailer confirms that the collection will be available for PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series S/X, Epic Games, and PC via Steam on June 23rd, 2022.
Sonic Origins Trailer and Official Details
The new Sonic Origins trailer provides the first details on the upcoming Sonic collection, which they announced last May during the Sonic Central presentation, including the new features and release date. The collection will feature fully remastered versions of the original Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles (available for the first time as one game), and Sonic CD, as well as additional bonus content to enhance the player experience.
“In Sonic Origins, players will join Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles to race at lightning speeds across remastered versions of iconic levels like the Green Hill Zone and Chemical Plant Zone, for a classic supersonic experience modernized for current-generation platforms. Players can switch between the Classic or Anniversary Modes to spin through loop-de-loops and score rings on a mission to save the world from the evil Dr. Eggman. With Sonic Origins, Sonic fans new and returning can celebrate the classic Sonic games that built the legendary franchise into what it is today. With new remastered visuals, characters, game modes, game zones, and more, Sonic Origins brings the best of the original Sonic titles to the modern-day,” the official description reads.
Sonic Origins will allow players to switch between Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles as the playable characters and feature two primary modes: Classic Mode and Anniversary Mode. Classic Mode will allow players to experience the multi-game collection of the featured legacy Sonic games in all of their retro glory form with classic challenges. It will feature the original game presentation and play in the classic finite live and game over style. The Anniversary Mode will provide a full-screen display and offer players an infinite number of lives to keep the fun going without any game-overs.
