New Soulstice Gameplay Trailer Reeks of Stylish Action

The new Soulstice gameplay trailer revealed at Gamescom 2021 showed plenty of promise for Replay Game Studios’ upcoming title.

Soulstice was first shown off during E3 2021. The action RPG had flair, style, as well as a clear visual identity. Despite including ‘souls’ in its name, Soulstice isn’t exactly a souls-like. If anything, the game has a lot more similarities to Devil May Cry: where fast-paced action and fancy combos take the cake over slow, methodical combat.

Soulstice Gameplay Trailer: Clearly Not A Souls-like

Despite the trailer not being particularly long, publisher Modus Games has clearly decided to set the focus on the game’s action sequences. There seems to also be sections with shifting camera angles, with one segment showcasing the main character running up a tower – including some light platforming. Perhaps we can expect such Nier-inspired shifts to occur more often throughout the game. The Soulstice gameplay trailer doesn’t shy away from revealing a boss or two, as well as some interesting set-pieces.

According to the game’s main website, players will need to handle two characters simultaneously. Briar is an expert when it comes to melee attacks, while Lute is more akin to a mage of sorts. Similar to Devil May Cry, the controlled protagonists will be able to switch weapons mid-combo, as well as achieve various transformations to unleash devastating attacks.

Soulstice isn’t going to be just about brawling and blood-spilling. Players will also engage in puzzles as well as exploration, with challenges coming at them in various forms. The world of Soulstice, visually and thematically, is said to be heavily inspired by “Japanese dark fantasy classics” – themes that a lot of us are very much looking forward to. It’s also worth noting that Stefanie Joosten, Quiet’s voice actor in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, is going to be playing a major role in the title.

There’s still plenty to uncover about Soulstice – but there’s also enough time for the developer and publisher to slowly drip feed us with more and more information.

Soulstice is expected to be out in 2022, for PS5, Xbox Series X | S, and PC.
