Anime fans old and new, would you like to go on another journey together? If that phrase struck a chord, it’s because it comes from the classic manga/anime series Spice and Wolf. The anime came out in 2008 and focuses on a merchant named Kraft Lawrence in a low fantasy setting. In this setting, gods are real but are losing worshippers as humans learn to act for themselves. Lawrence meets a wolf god named Holo, who simply wishes to return to her homeland. Sadly, like many others, the anime never concluded. However, it seems that may change. New Spice and Wolf content has been announced!

Spice and Wolf Is a Charming Tale of Romance and Wit
Spice and Wolf is an anime that went under the radar a bit. It came out around the advent of modern anime in 2008. However, things had not hit the mainstream as they are now. It made a home for itself on Netflix, as many anime do. Of course, as time went on and the industry evolved, it lost any new potential audience members. Beyond the niche focus of the anime, it also has been done for a while on both ends. The manga finished in 2017 (right around the new jump in anime fans), and the anime stopped after two seasons in 2009. Of course, that didn’t stop a cult following from forming.
What makes this show so special (and likely what helped spurn the new project) is an oddly satisfying mix of genres. Though the anime is a fantasy series, it focuses mainly on how to cleverly succeed in a detailed economic boom. Holo the Wolf Goddess is known for her cleverness and tact. So with that in hand, Lawrence can make quite the surplus. Beyond that, it becomes a slow-burn romance. As time goes on, you can see that these business partners may evolve into a little bit more. Even the series creator still pushes it along sometimes.
It’s unclear whether this new anime project is a third season, remake, or even spin-off. With a trailer this vague, we’ll have to wait and see.
