A fourth Star Trek movie, starring Chris Pine, is officially confirmed by Paramount. The Enterprise gang is coming back together for the new film. The film is set for December 2023 release. Today, producer J.J. Abrams announced at Paramount’s investor’s event that a new film is in the works and set to come out next year. Details about the synopsis and the full cast are unknown at this time as it is in the early stages. Director Matt Shakman is set to direct the new film. Shakman is known for directing works for WandaVision, Game of Thrones, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The actors Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, and John Cho are in talks to reprise their roles for the new film. The actors were in the original Star Trek movie back in 2009, directed by J.J. Abrams. The 2009 film made $385 million globally and had two sequels: Star Trek Into the Darkness and Star Trek Beyond.
Chris Pine and the gang captured our hearts in the 2009 film that featured the iconic and original Spock, Leonard Nimoy. It also starred Chris Hemsworth, Anton Yelchin, and Winona Ryder. Star Trek Into the Darkness made $467 million globally, starring Benedict Cumberbatch. The 2016 sequel, Star Trek Beyond, went on to earn $343 million globally. The film featured Idris Elba as Krall. Unfortunately, with a new film on the way, that means Anton Yelchin will not be reprising his role as Chekov. Anton passed away in 2016 due to a car accident. He passed away before Star Trek Beyond was released in theaters. With the original cast members in talks to return, the movie is already shaping up nicely. Paramount has been trying to make a fourth movie since 2018, and now we only have to wait another year for the third movie in the installment!
Paramount’s Star Trek movie with Chris Pine returning is due on December 22, 2023. Star Trek 2009, Star Trek Into the Darkness, and Star Trek Beyond are all available on Hulu now.
