Slovakian game development studio EastWorks Studios has announced a new upcoming tactical RTS game titled Gray Zone. It’s been in development for over two years and is said to combine aspects of the strategy and RPG genres. If you’ve never heard of the developer before, you can rest assured that they aren’t new. They’ve been around since 2011 and have contributed to the development of games like Mafia III, and Murdered Soul Suspect. Although Gray Zone seems to be their first wholly independent project, so we will have to wait and see if they’re up to the task. That said, my initial impressions are good.
The release describes Gray Zone as a “narrative-driven tactical RTS shoot ‘em up with RPG elements.”. You take on the role of a rebellious slave who starts a journey of adventure in the far future of our galaxy. They are putting a focus on memorable character interactions and fun dialogue. Other features will include character customization and different modes of combat. Nothing revolutionary. But nothing to complain about here either.
Gray Zone will be hitting Steam Early Access in March of 2020. The price is $19.99, and it will contain the first five of seven missions of the first chapter at launch. The developer plans to quickly and consistently begin adding content to the game after that. They are also promising Gray Zone will contain fully featured cutscenes and voice acting. They intend for this first part of the game to be completed before you get your hands on it, which is a welcome attitude from any developer.
“We’re really excited to be releasing our game via Steam’s Early Access. This project has meant a lot to us over the last two years of development, and we believe our great passion for the strategy genre combined with our storytelling process will resonate with gamers from all walks of life.” ~ EastWorks Studios Founder Rudolf Staruch
