A new Tomb Raider game has been announced by Crystal Dynamics, who have also revealed that the upcoming game will be made in Unreal Engine 5. The game has been widely rumored to be on the cards for quite some time, but with the developers now confirming the news about the next major game in the series, it has sent fans into a wild frenzy, as you would expect.
The announcement comes after Epic Games’ presentation of Unreal Engine 5 after the engine was finally released today – it’s just a big news day all around. Unreal Engine 5 is the powerful toolset behind Fortnite, as well as the recent Matrix Awakens demo that sent the world wild just a few months ago.
What are the devs saying about the new Tomb Raider game?
Crystal Dynamics today spoke about what to expect from this Unreal Engine 5 Tomb Raider game, “This new engine translates to a new level of storytelling and gameplay experience. That is why we’re thrilled to announce today that we’ve just started development of a new Tomb Raider game, which will be powered by the engine.” They went on to add, “Our goal is to push the envelope of fidelity and to deliver the high-quality cinematic action-adventure experience that all you fans deserve from ourselves and the franchise itself.”
Crystal Dynamics has worked on several titles in the franchise; games like Tomb Raider: Anniversary, and Underworld, are just a few on the list. It hasn’t been plain sailing in recent years, though, because the developers also worked on the not-so-great Marvel’s Avengers game, so here’s hoping they’ve learned their lesson from that one.
Not much else is known about this new Tomb Raider game apart from the Unreal Engine 5 news, so as soon we get a release date or any more information, we’ll be sure to inform you as best we can.
