The wait is finally over. DC wrapped up its DC FanDome event with a new trailer for Matt Reeves’ The Batman, the highly anticipated noir film starring Robert Pattinson. For those interested, you can find the trailer below:
You may have noticed that this interpretation of Batman is a lot more brutal and unrelenting compared to past live-action adaptations.Ā Before the trailer debuted, star Robert Pattinson talked about this new version of Bruce Wayne:
He doesn’t have as much control over his personality. Like, the delineation between when heās Batman and when heās Bruce, it’s not so clear. In other iterations, he really knows what he’s doing when he’s putting on the cowl. I kind of like this idea of it’s a little bit out of control. He hasn’t quite defined what Batman is. He gets lost in it.”
There’s a lot to dissect from this trailer, including how Colin Farrell’s Penguin fits into the overall story. Back in July, Farrell told the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via Collider) that he’s only in the film “for five or six scenes:”
āIām only in it for five or six scenes, so I canāt wait to see the film because it wonāt be ruined by my presence. Really, itās a freebie to me. Iāll get a little bit uncomfortable for the f-ing nine minutes I have, and then the rest of it, I cannot wait to see how he [Reeves] brought this world to life.ā
The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin. The film is expected to hit theaters on March 4, 2022.
