A circle will appear and after a few seconds, the game will prompt you to hook in the fish. Complete the minigame, and you will successfully catch a fish!
New World: How to Get Gems
Once you have caught a fish, you must salvage it. When you salvage a fish, you will receive fish filets. There is also a chance that you will make fish oil. However, you are not guaranteed to get fish oil when you salvage a fish, so you may need to catch and salvage multiple before getting any. This is especially true if you’re trying to make a lot of cooking oil since you need two fish oil for each cooking oil you craft. You won’t need much fish if you only plan on making one or two bottles of cooking oil but if you make more, you will likely need a dozen or more fish to salvage. You also need nuts to make cooking oil, which you can find in forests throughout the New World map.
