How to Make Fish Oil in New World
Before you can create fish oil, you need to get some fish! To begin fishing, find any body of water such as a river, lake or even the ocean, and equip a fishing rod. With your fishing rod equipped, press F3 to enable a fishing pop-up, and hold your mouse button down to throw your line into the water. A circle will appear and after a few seconds, the game will prompt you to hook in the fish. You will encounter a minigame where you have to hold your left mouse button down to reel the fish in without there being too much tension in your line. Complete the minigame, and you will successfully catch a fish!

Once you have caught a fish, you must salvage it. When you salvage a fish, you will receive fish filets. There is also a chance that you will make fish oil. However, you are not guaranteed to get fish oil when you salvage a fish, so you may need to catch and salvage multiple before getting any. This is especially true if you’re trying to make a lot of cooking oil since you need two fish oil for each cooking oil you craft. You won’t need much fish if you only plan on making one or two bottles of cooking oil but if you make more, you will likely need a dozen or more fish to salvage. You also need nuts to make cooking oil, which you can find in forests throughout the New World map.
