Amazon Games’ New World has been blocking players from creating new characters in full servers to help queue times. The update came via a tweet on New World’s official Twitter page. “Due to the incredible demand we have seen for New World, we have been working hard to increase the number of servers and increase the capacity of all available servers. We are also implementing a system to prevent new players from creating new characters in full servers.”
It went on to detail the new system put in place to help the issues with New World’s servers. “Whenever a server is full, the server will be greyed out with the messaging ‘Character Creation is temporarily disabled on this server to prevent overpopulation,” read the tweet. A full list of servers and their current status can be seen here. As of this writing, there are 28 servers listed as “full”.
While this change will affect new players with a limited amount of servers, the developer did promise that this would not affect existing players and their characters.
Since its release, Amazon Games’ debut title has struggled with server issues, and just last week they doubled the amount of New World servers. The developers then asked players to migrate to quieter servers to help the issues. Despite that, it became Steam’s most-played game of 2021 last week. It also recently broke its all-time high player count with 913,634 players.
After a series of delays since its original release date of May 2020, New World was released for PC on September 28, 2021.
