A lot happened at this year’s Hellfire Gala; not least of all, a new X-Men team was decided. Every year since the main mutants of the Marvel Universe established their own nation on Krakoa, they have used the Gala to announce a new roster for the X-Men. However, it’s not just up to Krakoa’s Quiet Council. It’s more interactive than that. Marvel opened ballots for fans back in January to vote on the final member of the team. This is the second annual Gala for Krakoa. The new roster was leaked last week, but now we have confirmation and can read the pages without watermarks obstructing our view.
Who Is On The New X-Men Team?
The oversized X-Men: Hellfire Gala #1 comes from Gerry Duggan and artists Matteo Lolli, C.F. Villa, Kris Anka, and Russell Dauterman. The soiree began with a bevy of characters arriving in style through portals, some of whom didn’t intend to show up until they read the news about mutant resurrection. Many major names attended the event, like Tony Stark, Captain America, the Fantastic Four, the Sorcerer Supreme, and even a few villains. These characters’ involvement hints at future stories like Judgement Day and Clea Strange’s hunt for her husband. However, none of that overshadowed the main event.
Some current members of the team opted to step down from the X-Men. These four members are Rogue, Polaris, Wolverine (Laura Kinney), and Sunfire. Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Synch request to remain on the team, to which they are allowed. Cyclops goes on to nominate Forge to join the team, which happens after a brief discussion between the two, and it’s implied that Cyclops wants Forge on the team to keep a closer eye on him. Forge retaliates by nominating Scott’s brother, Havoc, for the team. Emma Frost nominates Firestar to make amends for past transgressions. To round out the team, Magik and Iceman volunteer.
