Nick and Angel Carter are honoring their late brother Aaron Carter by starting a mental health fund in his remembrance. According to TMZ, the Carter siblings are asking for donations, instead of flowers, that will go to On Our Sleeves: The Movement for Children’s Mental Health. This group, which Nick has championed and served as an ambassador to for years, is dedicated to providing free, evidence-informed educational resources to break stigmas around child mental health. Donations are intended to fund educational content, school lesson plans, and school and organization activities. “By honoring Aaron,” says Nick’s team, “you help Nick, Angel, and their family’s commitment to helping others.”
Nick and Angel Honor Aaron Carter With Mental Health Advocacy
Aaron Carter was found dead in his tub on November 5th. He was just 34 years old. His official cause of death has not been confirmed, pending toxicology results. Nick and Angel (Aaron’s twin) shared loving tributes to their brother on social media. The night after Aaron’s death, Nick performed with the Backstreet Boys in London, and he could not hold back tears as the group honored Aaron during the show. This moment can be seen below.
Their grief is evident despite the complicated relationship they had with their brother. Both Nick and Angel filed restraining orders against Aaron in 2019, claiming his language toward them became violent and threatening. Aaron denied these allegations and said on Instagram at the time, “I am saddened by my family and what they have done to me. Your lives have broken my heart.” Aaron’s friend Gary Madatyan recently said that Aaron tried to mend the relationship with his brother and that it hurt him not to have his family with him in his struggles.
Regardless of their complicated relationship with Aaron, Nick and Angel Carter are determined to honor their late brother’s memory. As we’ve seen with the tragic examples of singers like Aaron Carter and Naomi Judd, mental health and fame can often take a great toll on a person. Nick and Angel are honoring their brother by advocating for the issue that plagued him and took him away too soon.
