Today is a great day for Nicolas Cage fans! According to a report from Deadline, the iconic Nicolas Cage will finally take on the role of the legendary horror icon Dracula for Universal Pictures’ upcoming monster movie, Renfield. The movie tells the story of one of Dracula’s henchmen, Renfield; this titular role will be played by Nicholas Holt, who recently starred in The Great and Those Who Wish Me Dead. The director of The Tomorrow War, Chris McKay, will lead the film’s production, which is based on an original story from Robert Kirkman and a script written by Ryan Ridley.
In Bram Stoker’s original Dracula story, R.M. Renfield is an inmate at an asylum who appears to be suffering from delusions but is actually Dracula’s servant. While plot details for the movie have yet to be revealed, the report indicates that the Renfield movie will be set in the present — instead of being a period piece.

Nicolas Cage recently starred in two very different but enjoyable movies, Pig and Prisoners of the Ghostland. Both films feature stellar performances from Cage, who plays entirely different characters. In Pig, Cage plays a former chef in mourning who must return to the life he left behind to find his stolen truffle pig. In Prisoners of the Ghostland, Cage plays a quiet, often short-tempered criminal who must rescue a young girl in a strange, post-apocalyptic wasteland. Whether Nicolas Cage chooses to be more serious and reserved like his role in Pig or more erratic and lively as many fans love, his performance as the icon of horror Dracula in Renfield will undoubtedly be one worth watching.
