HBO has cast Nicole Kidman and Maya Erskine in the adaption of The Perfect Nanny by Leila Slimani, Deadline has reported. The limited series will be led by the two, who will also executive produce the series. Erskine, best known for being the co-creator of Pen15, is the creator and writer of the adaption of the same name as the novel.
The novel was published in 2016 in France. Inspired by the 2012 Krim children murders, the story follows a seemingly stable and hardworking nanny who is working for a couple with two young children. As time goes on, her personality starts to shed and reveal something darker lurking behind her cheery smile. Although Nicole Kidman and Maya Erskine will star as the leads in The Perfect Nanny, their roles are currently unknown.
The two leads will executive produce with Per Saari, Pascal Caucheteux, and Philippe Godeau.
Nicole Kidman, Maya Erskine take on The Perfect Nanny adaption at HBO
Beyond The Perfect Nanny, Nicole Kidman has done multiple projects for HBO. She starred in Big Little Lies, which went on for two seasons and has gone dormant, leaving fans without much of a conclusion after its cliffhanger of a finale. She also starred in The Undoing with Hugh Grant. Coming up, she will executive produce and star in Amazon’s Expats, Netflix’s rom-com A Family Affair, and Lioness, a Paramount+ series with her and Zoe Saldaña.
This marks the first time for Maya Erskine at HBO for The Perfect Nanny. She ran Hulu’s hit series, Pen15, which ran for two seasons. Before she gets to work on the HBO limited series, she is currently filming Amazon’s remake series of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, which will see her co-star with Donald Glover.
No date is scheduled for when we will see The Perfect Nanny. It will join a longline of limited series the premium cabler has supported over the years like The Undoing, Watchmen, and The Staircase.
