Nintendo has released the 1.1.0 Update for Super Mario Maker 2. The first major update adds new ways to find levels and highly requested features.
The first major update adds the ability to play Mario levels online with friends. Now you can create a room and have your friends join in on the platforming fun.
Super Mario Maker 2 now supports the Nintendo Switch Online app for smartphones. While in the app, you can connect with players you were matched with and communicate via voice chat.
With the 1.1.0 Update, not only is it easier to play with friends online but also on the couch. Each level has a Play Together button, which allows for buddies to join you at a level quickly.
1.1.0 Update Adds More Ways to Play
Nearby Play now allows more modes to play and easier access to levels uploaded in the Course World. You can even play with others connected to the same LAN setup, to hopefully cut down on lag while playing.
Like other online games, you will not be able to play with others using a previous version of Super Mario Maker 2 after you have downloaded the update.
Other changes include the option to play through levels designed through official Nintendo makers by region and more visibility options to the maker profiles.
A new fix in the 1.1.0 Update for the maker mode comes with the option to use button controls in level creation. Previously, you could only use the touchscreen and shoulder buttons, but with all the buttons available it should speed up level creation.
Still Lacking as an Online Game
Even with the performance changes, playing Super Mario Maker 2 online is like trying to run through a swimming pool filled with ranch dressing. Hopefully, these issues will get corrected but do not expect a flawless online experience yet.
