Nintendo Switch Online has never been the most beloved service added to the Switch platform. While the emulated NES and SNES titles are nice, there’s certainly a lot missing. Despite being built upon the architecture that brought classic games to the Wii and Wii U, the Switch’s offerings are much less. While fans with an active subscription can enjoy these titles for free, the added N64 games are where fans start asking questions. The latency from online streaming and limited library turns fans away from the service. Yet, while there’s been much debate over the value of the service, the drawbacks are undeniable. Yet, Nintendo has been making steady upgrades to the service. Amongst new N64 titles added to the service, Nintendo has made many upgrades under the hood. Reportedly, the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack emulation has finally reimplemented fog graphics for N64 titles.

Version 2.0.0 is now available. There appear to be a bunch of game configuration updates which I will cover in another tweet.
Notably, however: the infamous Water Temple room is completely fixed, as the fog has been restored. pic.twitter.com/LdYX7t4lHS

What Did Nintendo Fix About N64 Emulation In Switch Online Expansion Pack?
While this fix has been for many N64 titles, The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time was notorious for these issues. Many were upset over the poor emulation quality due to the missing graphics in the water temple. These issues were not present in past re-releases of Ocarina of Time. This new version does bring the other N64 game, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. A title that features faster inputs as well. The service as a whole must have received some input lag reduction as even Ocarina of Time shows even fewer frames of lag. While these upgrades are certainly not the end, it’s a start to making the service that much better with even more N64 games to enjoy.
