Nintendo has finally revealed the details regarding its new Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription update. Launching on October 25, 2021, the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack will add several classic Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis libraries in addition to the base features, priced at $49.99 and $79.99 for the family plan (for 12-month). The newly announced Animal Crossing: New Horizons DLC releasing on November 5, Happy Home Paradise, is also available as a part of the Expansion Pack or can be purchased separately for $25.
Considering the standard Switch Online costs only $19.99 (or $34.99 for the family membership) for the same one-year plan, it is a pretty huge price upgrade. Thankfully, according to the feature overview trailer below those with an ongoing Switch Online membership, at the very least, will be able to upgrade to Expansion Pack at a prorated discount, depending on how much time is left on their plan. Though I don’t think the bonuses are enticing enough to pay more than twice the price of the standard subscription.

The standard Nintendo Switch Online itself lets you use the console’s online multiplayer features, gives you access to more than 100 classic NES and Super NES games with added online functionality, exclusive games like Pac-Man 99 and special membership offers, automatic save backup via Save Data Cloud feature, and access to Nintendo Switch Online App that lets you use voice chat in compatible games. The individual membership plan for the basic Nintendo Switch Online has a 7-day free trial, and is priced at:
- 1 month: $3.99.
- 3 months: $7.99.
- 12 months: $19.99.
For now, though, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription will only be available as a 12-month plan costing $49.99. Nintendo hasn’t said whether or not the company will release a one-month or three-month plan for the subscription update.
