For the almost 4 years since its launch, the Nintendo Switch has preformed incredibly well. Proving itself to be a capable machine and having the capability to stand up to modern generations of hardware, the Switch is a formidable competitor. With sales still riding high and more games yet to announce and launch, many expect more from Nintendo. With almost 5 whole years of development work, fans have been curious as to what Nintendo might be planning next. As most consoles do nowadays, the natural evolution is to create an enhanced version with better graphics. It seems that fans might be closer to discovering a new console than one might think. Recently exposed in a data mine of the Switch’s newest firmware, plans for a Nintendo Switch Pro have been uncovered.
What Information Got Leaked?
Thanks to Switch hacker and data miner, SciresM, there is a much better picture as to what this might even look like. In his ResetEra thread, he details the findings quite clearly and the report is interesting but also suspect to change. Reported is a new 4K capable chip that would allow for games to be played in that resolution. The Nintendo Switch Pro would also feature an OLED display like the first generation PlayStation Vita. The system is hopefully one that fulfills fans’ needs for a better console with more battery power and graphic capabilities.Â
Nintendo’s President of America, Doug Bowser, stated in an interview with Polygon that Nintendo’s focus is on current avenues for games; making the two consoles share hardware is integral to maintain the inter-generational ecosystem. Likely this will mean most games will share the same Switch market with the Pro playing and rendering titles much better than the standard. While it’s unclear as to when or what the console will actually look like, we will have to wait for more announcements to come. Though with this news, the reality of a new Switch model has never been closer.
