Nintendo’s latest earnings report revealed that the Nintendo Switch sales have reached 92.87 million consoles worldwide since September 30. The company had also sold 93.89 million units of software for the console between April 1 and September 30.
Net Nintendo Switch sales for the first six months of the first financial year declined by 18.9% compared to last year. Overall profit also declined by 14.1% percent compared to the same year.
At the same time, Nintendo will only expect to sell 24 million units of the Nintendo Switch due to a chip shortage. This is about 20% less than the previously planned production estimate of 30 million. These numbers also include the newer Switch OLED model and the Switch Lites. Nintendo also adds that “the extended impact of both COVID-19 and the global semiconductor shortage creates a state of continued uncertainty, with the possibility of future impact on production and shipping”.
The Nintendo Switch’s Game Rise
The Nintendo report also revealed the updated game’s sales as of September 30th. This includes the report that the company sold 3.60 million copies of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. It also sold 2.19 million copies of New Pokemon Snap, and 1.94 million copies of Super Mario Golf: Super Rush. Other reported games mentioned in the meeting include;
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield
- Super Mario Odyssey
- Super Mario Party
- Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokemon: Let’s Go Evee!
- Splatoon 2
- Ring Fit Adventure
The Switch hybrid home and handheld console first came out on March 3, 2017. The console itself is the company’s fourth best selling behind the Nintendo DS, the Gameboy, and the Wii. However, if sales continue to rise, the Switch will approach the lifetime sale of the Wii (101.63 million).
At the same time, the company revealed in its investor’s plan that there is already another handheld console in development. However, the plans or any details about it are vague at best.
