No Man’s Sky recently launched the massive Frontiers update on all platforms, bringing with it a brand new settlement system to breathe life into the game’s world. There’s a lot that’s been added alongside that as well, but these new settlements and their potential for gameplay are the mainstays of the update. As you head into a world to start your adventure though, you may want to find some of these settlements and perhaps become an Overseer. No need to worry if you’re confused though as, in this guide, we’ll tell you exactly how to find settlements and become an overseer in No Man’s Sky!
How to Find Settlements and Become an Overseer in No Man’s Sky
Finding settlements is actually quite easy to do. First of all, you’ll want to head off your current planet and head into space. From here, you’ll receive a distress call from one of the now-founded settlements out on the frontier. As they’re in trouble, you’ll need to head there and complete a quest in order to help that colony out. While we’d love to help you on the said quest, this will be randomized depending on what settlement you find. It’s also worth noting that while the game gives you a pre-determined settlement to save, the settlement location may not be ideal. Any number of dangers could cause major issues to repair the settlement, or it could simply be really far away.
If this is the case, then you aren’t completely out of luck. In this case, head over to your nearest space station and pick up a settlement map from the cartogropher. This will likely lead you to a more ideal location but may take a few tries to get right. With it, just head to the planet, land, and use the map to find the exact spot you need to be!
To become an Overseer goes hand in hand with the previous goal. First of all, you’ll want to complete the quest and protect your settlement. Once done, you can make your way to the Settlement Hub Interface and submit an application, which will be accepted or denied. If you get denied, just keep going at it and you’ll eventually be accepted. Then, you’ll just have to build an Overseer’s Office, and you’ll be done! From there, you can handle all the affairs of your settlement and improve various stats like happiness.
