A modder recently has begun developing a remaster mod for the first game in the series, STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl, while GSC Game World is focused on STALKER 2 Heart of Chernobyl. Shadow of Chernobyl, the first STALKER in the franchise, was initially made available in 2007. A fan and modder, Andrey0007, has taken it upon himself to remaster the original game as we wait for the series’ fourth title.
The Original STALKER Gets Remastered Once Again
Released in 2007, STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl was a futuristic game due to its complex RPG components and intense atmosphere. After the game’s initial release, it quickly gained popularity, and the developers undertook the release of two more games.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl remaster modder “Andrey0007” has revealed some fresh pictures from the project. You can see from these screenshots what this fan remake intends to accomplish. According to Andrey0007, this remaster would replace nearly all of the game’s textures with 4K versions. It should be noted that Andrey0007 plans to upgrade the original textures using AI methods. The modder will generate some new textures for some surfaces and items.
Andrey0007, the modder, is also working on adding new audio files for weapons, opponents, and dialogues to improve and update the whole experience. The exact release date of this remastered game is unknown. However, given that it is a one-person effort, we should expect a lengthy development time. Nevertheless, we hope the modder can complete this remaster before the future STALKER game’s release date.
If you can’t wait for STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl or this fan-remaster, you can get Shadow of Chernobyl on Steam.
STALKER 2 Heart of Chernobyl was supposed to be released later this year; however, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the game’s release was delayed to 2023. The developer’s country, Ukraine, is currently in significant conflict with Russia.
