Opera and GameMaker have announced the #NoticeMe Game Jam 2022, a two-week-long indie game jam with some significant prizes. The game jam begins March 4th and goes through March 18th. YouTuber PewDiePie will be announcing the winners on his channel at the end of the event.
Any game developers who take on the challenge have the chance to win from a $33,000 prize pool. However, there is a big prize at stake for three lucky developers. Out of all of the submissions, three games will be chosen to be immortalized in their own arcade cabinets. The cabinets will find themselves in-game museums, barcades, and universities worldwide.
About the #NoticeMe Game Jam
The theme of the #NoticeMe Game Jam will be revealed on March 4th. After that, developers have two weeks to create their games. The developers will make use of the GameMaker Studio 2 software; the same engine used to create great titles such as Undertale and Hotline Miami. After the jam, the creators upload their games to Opera’s self-publishing platform, GXC. The platform currently offers over 600 titles for free to the Opera GX browser users.
Russell Kay, head of GameMaker, said this about the upcoming game jam.
With the #NoticeMe Game Jam, we want to encourage the GameMaker community to submit their games onto GXC, not only to reach Opera GX’s growing user base but also for the opportunity to see their work immortalized in a custom-made arcade cabinet.
Additional prizes at stake
At the end of the submission period, a panel of judges of Opera and GameMaker will choose ten finalists. After that, their fate rests in the hands of the public, who will vote for the five best games. Ultimately, it’s the players who decide the three games that receive physical arcade cabinets.
Additionally, there are other prizes up for grabs. To shine a light on artists and designers, the “Best Cover Image” category awards $1,000 to the two games with the best cover art. A further $7,000 prize pool is on the line in unannounced categories.
