If you’ve been following Splatoon 2, you know that in addition to version 3.0 and the changes it brings to the table, the game’s first paid DLC package, Octo Expansion, is swimming slowly closer. Nintendo dropped a video earlier today giving fans a peek into one of Octo Expansion’s 80 stages (that’s over twice as many as the regular story mode’s meager 32 levels). From the look of things, these levels are gonna be a tad different in style from the ordinary campaign, and, well… let’s just say newcomers need not apply.
In the video, Agent 8 – because octopuses (yes, that grammar is correct) have eight tentacles – takes on a rotating wheel of deadly octo-snipers with a rifle of her own. She doesn’t finish them all off before the video ends, so we don’t know for sure if this singular shootout makes up the entirety of the stage or not. If the video is anything to go by, Octo Expansion will test players’ mastery over the various weapon types.
If the video is anything to go by, Octo Expansion will test players’ mastery over the various weapon types. Splatoon 2‘s campaign stages excel at presenting scenarios that seem harrowing but give way to a steady rhythm once you figure out the mechanics of whatever obstacle you’re facing.
Nintendo announced Octo Expansion back in March during one of their Nintendo Direct conferences and promised the ability to play as an Octoling in multiplayer matches upon completing the pack’s 80 stages. Those who pre-order the DLC, which releases on July 13, will also immediately receive some octo-themed gear with which to deck out their Inkling upon purchase. While the option to finally play as an Octoling is awesome, don’t forget that Nintendo’s online services will no longer be free when the company switches over to paid subscriptions later this year.
