Nintendo sent out a Tweet announcing the date for the October Nintendo Direct, which will air on October 6. In the announcement, they also revealed that we would be getting our first trailer for the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie. As of now, we know almost nothing about the movie besides the cast, so this will be our chance to get an idea of how it will be.
Tune in at 1:05 p.m. PT on 10/6 for a #NintendoDirect: The Super Mario Bros. Movie presentation introducing the world premiere trailer for the upcoming film (no game information will be featured).

Super Mario Bros. Movie
Since the announcement of the Super Mario Bros. movie, we have learned nothing about what the story will be. There was some backlash in September 2021, when it was first announced that Mario himself would be voiced by Chris Pratt and not Charles Martinet, who has been Mario’s voice throughout the series’ history. However, while Martinet will not be voicing Mario, he will still be a part of the film, though who he will play as is unknown.
The other confirmed actors for the upcoming Mario movie include:
- Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach
- Charlie Day as Luigi
- Jack Black as Bowser
- Keegan-Michael Key as Toad
- Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong
- Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong
- Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek
- Sebastian Maniscalco as Foreman Spike
The movie will be animated and produced by Illumination, and is currently set to be released on April 7, 2023. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are the directors, while Matthew Fogel is in charge of writing the script.
The October Nintendo Direct will begin at 1:05 pm PT, and you can watch the presentation on the official YouTube channel when it goes live. Unlike most Nintendo Directs, it is confirmed that “no game information will be featured” for this month, instead focusing on the Super Mario Bros. movie. Hopefully, this means that we will get plenty of information for the upcoming movie.
