The Oculus Quest 2 is one of the more popular VR devices, and it has maintained a steady following. To compete in today’s market, they’ve innovated considerably. And the new Passthrough API Experimental toolkit is a strong example of that.

Oculus Quest 2 is Changing Reality

The device is known to play video games. But the people behind the device don’t want to stop there. Using the Passthrough API Experimental, Oculus Quest 2 users can venture into Augmented Reality. So what does that really mean for consumers? Here are some of the features reported as part of the ‘toolkit:

• Image Projection – Using the device, users will be able to project images onto flat surfaces.
• Add Layers – Like the tabs in a browser, people can add composite layers to their field of view.
• Visual Styles – One can also change the ‘theme’ of their surroundings, if they prefer.
• Virtual Monitors – Tired of looking at your screen every day? Why not use your Oculus Quest 2 instead of your regular screen?
• Stylize Your Environment – If you’re looking for some fun, you can also create a colorful dreamscape out of your room.

There are a few ways that Oculus Quest 2 can utilize AR. In addition to a virtual desk, you can learn certain skills. Instead of spending time in a garage, you can get familiar with car parts. Or, if gloves become part of the device, they can be used to teach things like ASL. Some may even be able to take a vacation without leaving their homes. The application of augmented reality has infinite possibilities. And the team has already sent the framework to Unity developers for further application testing.
