Oddworld’s favorite inhabitant, Abe, has been bringing joy to people everywhere since his debut game on the PlayStation in 1997. Now he’s back, in book form.
The next game in the series, Oddworld: Soulstorm, might be some way away, so it’s great to see Abe back in some form. What makes this news better is that the art book, entitled Oddworld: Abe’s Origins is available now via indiebydesign.net at the cost of £40.
The book itself is an absolute monster. It comes in at 288 pages, all printed on uncoated matte art paper, it weighs over 1.7KG and features an embossed, gold foil cover logo and spine text.
Each copy has a hardcover that has a thread-sewn binding and comes officially endorsed and licensed by Oddworld Inhabitants.
The artwork inside comes from each game in the series. Expect art from Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee & Exoddus, Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee and Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath. New ‘n’ Tasty isn’t left out, and neither is the yet to be released, Soulstorm.
As well as all that there will be artwork from unreleased Oddworld Inhabitants games and essays detailing the species, lands, and designs from the franchise.
The price may put some people off, but honestly, who wouldn’t want this to sit proudly on their coffee table?
Should the above not be enough to whet your appetite, there is also a 16,000-word interview with creator Lorne Lanning that has been compiled mainly for this book from over 8 hours worth of interviews. There’s plenty to look at while we all patiently await the next game.
Let us know in the comments if you plan to buy this book, or if you already have it on order. We’d also be interested to hear about your favorite memories from the Oddworld series in general as well as your favorite game in the franchise.
