Announced at The Game Awards 2020, Oddworld: Soulstorm, the second game in the Oddworld quintology, is coming to PC, PS4, and PS5 in spring 2021. PC pre-purchases are already available through Epic Games Store while the PlayStation pre-orders period will be announced later. As a re-imagining of 1998’s classic platformer Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus, Soulstorm will continue Abe’s story with bigger, badder, and bolder visuals as well as gameplay.
Oddworld: Soulstorm features RPG-lite elements that give you several ways to deal with puzzles, whether aggressively or passively. Save fellow Mudokon slaves; the more followers you save, the stronger the uprising becomes. You can craft items as weapons or tools against enemies and obstacles using scavenged resources from lockers or trash cans and vending machines. And then gift the items to your followers. The Quarma system that reflects your actions is also in place, influencing Abe, his followers, his abilities, and your score throughout the game.
The quintology tells the story of Abe the Mudokon. He and his kind quietly slaved away at RuptureFarms, the world’s biggest meat processing plant run by Molluck the Glukkon. Accidentally overhearing a sinister plan to increase profits at RuptureFarms by turning Mudokons into food, Abe, like any of us would, tries to escape. Along the way, something inside of him awakens. He can’t leave behind his fellow Mudokons. His actions create a spark that ignites a movement and a revolution. After the events of Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty, Abe learns that revolutions start small, but real and lasting change requires the power of many and the power of hope. And that opposing forces will use every means at their well-funded disposal, from propaganda to brute force, to beat back even the smallest hints of unrest.
The expected first playthrough of Oddworld: Soulstorm is estimated at 15 hours. But thanks to leaderboards, achievements, and badges on all levels, achievement hunters and perfectionists can easily play for double the hours.
