Netflix has revealed the ‘Straw Hats’ cast members for the upcoming One Piece live-action show based on the popular manga and anime franchise of same title. The cast was announced on Tuesday in a series of tweets. The announced cast includes Iñaki Godoy, who will play the main protagonist Luffy, Mackenyu who plays “Pirate Hunter” Zoro, Emily Rudd who plays the sticky-fingered Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson who plays Usopp, and Taz Skylar who plays pirate chef Sanji.
The five-person cast represents the characters of the Straw Hats Pirates, the central group of the manga series.

Netflix Geeked also shared a note from One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda about the development of the series. Eiichiro said that the series’ development has taken so long to come to fruition since its initial announcement because of the casting. However, the One Piece live-action show, which will reportedly have 10 episodes, is still a long way out. “It’ll take a bit more time to get this show done, but we’ll continue to do our best to deliver a show that we’re confident will be enjoyed by everyone around the world,” Eiichiro said.
Just like other streaming platforms, Netflix’s recent activities have shown that the streaming giants have bet on live-action adaptations of popular animated shows to popularise their growing original series offerings even further. Apart from the One Piece live-action announcements, the company recently revealed its cast for its long-awaited Avatar: The Last Airbender show and will release the heavily anticipated Cowboy Bebop live-action show on November 19.
