If the above headline took you by surprise, don’t worry, we haven’t gone mad and we aren’t about to start a new portion of the site dedicated to wedding dresses. It’s just that when One Piece, one of the best Manga series’ ever written decides to launch a collection of wedding dresses that’s the sort of news we have to bring you, no matter how absurd.
Being such a hugely successful franchise, One Piece is certainly no stranger to the world of merchandise, and I should know as after visiting Japan 4 times the amount of One Piece tat memorabilia I have is insane. I certainly won’t be buying one of these though, it wouldn’t fit for a start.
For the collection, One Piece has teamed up with Placole to bring 12 months’ worth of dresses to the public at a rate of one per month. In an announcement Tweet (that you can see here untranslated) the company have announced that the dress for August will be based on the Strawhats’ navigator, Nami.
As you’d expect, the dress has an orange theme based on her beloved tangerines, and it does look pretty fancy, even if I don’t know what I’m talking about.
There’s no word on price, as far as I could see, however, with an August release the details should appear soon.
Hopefully, the designers will tailor-make these dresses for any brides to be, as it must be said that the proportions of One Piece’s female characters have been amped up to ridiculous standards since the time skip. Should they be designed to fit the characters no one will be able to wear them as real people don’t look like what you see above.
Let us know what you think of the dress in the comments and be sure to let us know what One Piece characters you want to see in the coming months. Personally, if we get to see a Zoro dress I’ll be so happy, especially as he’d be forced to model it.
