A Reddit user has remade the original Minecraft trailer from 2010 using footage from the game in 2020.
Minecraft was a Fortnite level gaming phenomenon in the early 2010s, and its popularity remains to this day. Originally launched in 2011 by Mojang, Minecraft sold over a million copies within a month of entering its beta. Now, the game is the highest-selling game of all time with over 180 million copies sold. This puts it ahead of Tetris (170m) and Grand Theft Auto V (120m).
Laffengas, a YouTuber and Reddit user, has recreated the original trailer from 2010. It shows the graphical evolution of the game through mods and shaders by showing the same shots from 2010 in 2020. The original trailer, titled ‘This is Minecraft‘ was fan-made by Vareide and was showcased on Mojang’s website, making it the first officially recognized trailer for the game.
The recreation of the trailer, which pays homage to the players of Minecraft in the early 2010s has been upvoted almost six thousand times. The recreation received some criticism for using mods to enhance how the game looks. In the comments on the Reddit post, Laffengas said:
Thanks for watching guys! I tried to go for the “Microsoft trailer look” with the 2020 recreation to keep in line with the newer trailers. It was an amazing opportunity to recreate the iconic trailer that convinced my parents to buy me the game!
To recreate the look of the newer trailers, Laffengas used the Barebones Texture Pack, BSL Shaders and the Replay Mod.
Minecraft received a boost in popularity in mid-2019 due to YouTuber PewDiePie doing a playthrough on his YouTube channel. He even played it with actor and singer, and now YouTuber, Jack Black.
