Oscar Isaac is taking on the role of Moon Knight for the upcoming Marvel series of the same name coming to Disney+. However, this role has been no walk in the park as Isaac says the role of Moon Knight has been the most challenging of his career. Speaking to Variety, Isaac discussed the massive workload he experienced but still said the experience was mostly positive and satisfying. Isaac is no stranger to big-budget blockbuster roles as he starred in the Star Wars sequel trilogy and X-Men: Apocalypse. Here’s what he had to say in the interview:
Speaking with Kevin [Feige], I told him I’m going to come in with these big ideas, and if you don’t like them, that’s fair, and immediately, we saw it all. I found so much room to do things that I’ve never done before and had been curious about and wanting to do. I could not wait to get to set, and it was the biggest workload I’ve ever had in my career and most challenging; by the sheer amount of stuff we had to do in eight months, and even yet, I couldn’t wait to get to set and work.”
Moon Knight is one of the most exciting new characters coming into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Oscar Isaac will star as Marc Spector/Moon Knight, a former marine turned CIA agent who gains supernatural powers from the Egyptian Moon God Khonshu after stumbling upon an archaeological dig site. Marc also suffers from a dissociative identity disorder that causes him to switch between multiple personalities. This character is considered to be an anti-hero with comics that often delve into darker themes. This could be an opportunity for Marvel to feature some more mature themes within their content.
In addition to Isaac, this series also stars May Calamawy, Gaspard Ulliel, and Ethan Hawke as an unnamed villain. Moon Knight is expected to debut on Disney+ in 2022. The next Marvel series coming is Hawkeye with its first two episodes to premiere on Nov. 24.
