Despite Overwatch 2 not ditching the old casts, Blizzard Entertainment has brought a number of significant tweaks and changes to the returning characters including Bastion in order to mix the meta and refresh the characters. Gone has the Configuration: Tank, replaced with a more devastating — but vulnerable — Artillery mode. Not to mention that there are subtle changes too, like changes to its weapons magazines and damage among others. Let’s relearn how the Omnic Hero works in our Overwatch 2 Bastion guide and overview.
Bastion Hero Guide (Tips & Abilities) – Overwatch 2
Bastion’s Primary weapon, Configuration: Recon, is best used to chip away at airborne targets like Echo, Pharah, or Mercy since it has a small spread making it very accurate (in a burst), lets you quickly move from cover to cover, and deal critical damage. Once you find a comfortable spot to flank the enemy team, then you can transform into Configuration: Assault and use the element of surprise. This time mobility has become one of Bastion’s advantages in the game.
[Note: At the time of writing, there’s a glitch that lets you use Configuration: Artillery Ultimate non-stop and in quick succession, so you would want to rack in Eliminations, get into its Ultimate, and utilize this as often as you can before it gets fixed]
Nevertheless, you would want to pick it on maps where players don’t need to make an aggressive push because Bastion is still more effective on defense than offense. In Configuration: Assault, you can dish out tons of damage, perfect for Eliminating slow-moving or tanky targets such as Winston, Roadhog, Junker Queen, or unshielded Reinhardt — but can also easily be a punching bag and got Eliminated too if you aren’t careful.
Change your firing spot often when it’s safe or enemies are starting to notice your presence. Try to aim at high damage-dealers first (for example, Reaper, Moira, and Zarya) to help out your teammates or make a room for an escape. Keep in mind that snipers like Widowmaker or Ana are hard to counter. Also, don’t forget that Bastion’s back is a huge weak spot so stay vigilant!

Best Paired With:
- Reinhardt: Configuration: Assault Bastion can safely attack enemies behind Reinhardt’s Barrier Field. Also useful when setting up Payload.
- Zarya: Enemies pulled by Graviton Surge Ultimate are easy targets for both Configuration: Assault and Configuration: Artillery Bastion.
- Genji: Strategize with a Genji user to pull off deadly pincer attacks; while the Genji sneaks in from behind, Bastion can destroy the enemy’s team from the frontline.
- Mercy: Like most damage dealers, Mercy’s Secondary Caduceus Staff gives an attack boost that will let Bastion shred the enemy team once a proper spot to change into Configuration: Assault or Configuration: Artillery has been found.
- Torbjorn: Two turrets are better than one. Torbjorn’s Deploy Turret can act as a diversion while a Bastion dishes out most of the damage from afar while the enemies are confused.
