If you’ve been even mildly interested in video games over the past year, then you’ve unavoidably become familiar with Overwatch. It’s an all-around solid game and one that fans can continue to enjoy long after they’ve played their last match of the day, thanks to tons of creative content released by Blizzard and fans alike. Now, Darkhorse Comics is getting in on the action, releasing a combo of books this fall: The Overwatch Anthology and The Art of Overwatch.
The Overwatch Anthology will compile the first 12 issues of the digital Overwatch comics, originally released by Blizzard. There’s really no reason not to pick this up—Blizzard Entertainment is known for putting out top-of-the-line creative works, from video games to digital shorts (the Overwatch shorts are amazing). Even if you’re not a comic collector, The Overwatch Anthology will have something for all fans of the game. At the $19.99 price point, it’s almost a steal. Look for this book when it releases on October 10th.
Releasing a couple weeks later on October 24th is The Art of Overwatch, a collection of concept art, some of which is “never-before-seen.” While The Overwatch Anthology provides backstory to some of your favorite characters from the game, The Art of Overwatch will give you a glimpse into the creative process surrounding the game’s development. At $49.99, this book will take a little more dedication, and will likely be picked up more often by mega-fans than casual players. And, for the truly dedicated, a limited edition hardcover is available, adorned with “the game’s most popular hero, Tracer” and comes in a clamshell box. The real bonus, however, is the three prints that come with this edition.
While this all may seem pretty steep, rest assured you’re in good hands. Dark Horse has been publishing some really great art books over the past few years. While Fallout 4 might not have hit the mark for everyone as a game, The Art of Fallout 4 did its job just fine. I have no doubt that these two Overwatch releases will provide plenty of eye-candy for people who are into that sort of thing. With a possible game of the year edition on the way, this is the perfect time to get build some extra hype.
