Since it was announced that Overwatch was coming to the Nintendo Switch, fans have been itching to seem some sort of crossover between Nintendo and the popular shooter. Nintendo fans even went so far as to create a video introducing the Hero of Hyrule as one of the new characters for the Nintendo Switch version. As sad as we all are knowing that Link won’t actually be joining the crew, Jeff Kaplan, Overwatch’s director, gave us a bit of hope today: he’s more than open to an Overwatch character joining the fight in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.Â
In an interview with IGN, Kaplan eagerly said, “To the Smash Brothers team, whatever character you want, we love them all. They’re all our babies, you can have any single one of them. We have 31 to choose from.” However, Kaplan and Wes Yanagi, the producer for Overwatch’s Switch release, both agreed that they would love to see Tracer in the game.
Kaplan shared his love for the Overwatch mascot, “Tracer’s our girl, Tracer’s our mascot. She’d be my first choice.” He went on to say that he could also easily see Doomfist fitting into the quick gameplay of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.Â
There is still one character yet to be announced in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter pass. However, Nintendo has announced that more fighters and DLC are on the way. So, who knows what speedy pest may join the next round of fighters?
Overwatch: Legendary Edition is set to release on Nintendo Switch later this month on October 15th.
