Over the past few days, the people behind Overwatch have been teasing a new hero on their Twitter page. While we were hoping for an ape-like companion to join Winston, Blizzard did the fans one better. Hero 28 has officially been revealed as the new tank, Wrecking Ball, a rolling metal death mech piloted by a chubby hamster named Hammond.

The rumors surrounding the twenty-eighth hero were partially correct. Most theories revolved around Hammond to some capacity, but they just happened to get the species wrong. Instead of a chimp or other smaller ape, Hammond is a bloodthirsty hamster — which, let’s be honest, might be way better! In another partially correct guess, Hammond is also slightly associated with Junkertown, as this is where he built his mech and learned to fight.
Hammond is close friends with Winston since they both escaped Horizon Lunar Colony together. However, Hammond’s escape pod detached on their way to Earth, and since landing in Junkertown has spent his time exploring our planet. Unlike Winston, our hamster pilot isn’t great at communication and speaks through the minor AI of his mech.
Wrecking Ball will be rolling into Overwatch’s Public Test Realm on Thursday, and it sounds like he’ll be quite the addition the tank category. This genetically modified hamster will have two modes: a rolling ball of doom or a quadruped robot with a plethora of cannons. He has a grappling hook that can allow for all sorts of interesting mobility, and his ultimate is a shower of devastating mines. Want some more information?
