Paramount+ shared the first trailer for Star Trek: Lower Decks season 3. Among many things, the trailer teased a heist of the U.S.S. Cerritos conducted by those in the lower decks. The season 3 trailer was revealed during Star Trek: Mission Chicago and mainly highlights the voice cast.
Star Trek: Lower Decks premiered as the third cartoon series for the Star Trek franchise. The first animated series was Star Trek: The Animated Series and Star Trek: The Prodigy. Lower Decks was created by Mike McMahan, who has prior experience writing for Rick and Morty and Solar Opposites. The voice cast for the show includes Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noel Wells, and more.
Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 3: “When The Stakes Are Low, They Go Lower”
Star Trek: Lower Decks follows the support crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos, rather than following the bridge crew. The series also takes on a humorous tone, rather than the serious-toned names in the Star Trek franchise. Season 2 ended with a cliffhanger that said Captain Freeman was placed under arrest. This was also supported by evidence that she was also working with the Klingons. Even though Freeman was confident that she would be released, the season ended with a “to be continued” screen. In the trailer, Newsome’s character Mariner can be seen discussing plans to rescue her mother, who is revealed to be Captain Freeman.
It is also under suspicion that the show will introduce more characters from previous Star Trek titles. The idea would not be outlandish because the showrunners have done that in the past. There is a possibility that the characters from the resurgence era of Star Trek could also make an appearance.
Star Trek: Lower Decks season 3 will be ten episodes. It will premiere in May exclusively on Paramount+. Currently, the show has also been renewed for a fourth season. Star Trek: Lower Decks is available on Paramount+ and Amazon Prime.
