Paramount is officially getting into business with music icon Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson for the development of Jackson’s new original series Vice City. Lionsgate, Paramount TV Studio, and Jackson’s G-Unit Film and Television Studio will join forces to produce the new drama series, which will be available to stream on Paramount+.
Vice City, which is currently being developed under a working title, will follow three friends who return to their hometown of Miami, Florida after being dishonorably discharged from the military because of their involvement in the Iran Contra scandal during the mid-1980s. The trio, described by Deadline as “Disgraced, displaced, and forgotten by the country they served and with no good job prospects”, fall into business with a mysterious Colombian immigrant. Together, the ex-soldiers and their mysterious friend – driven by never-ending greed and dangerous dreams of criminal ambitions – come together to form a heist crew as they “traverse a violent and dangerous path in pursuit of the American Dream.”
50 Cent’s G-Unit Productions to Lead Paramount+ Series
An original Paramount+ series, Vice City will be helmed by writers and executive producers Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters (Transformers: Rise of The Beasts), along with executive producer and series director Chad Stahelski (John Wick: Chapter 4). 50 Cent’s G-Unit production studio will also oversee the production of the series, making Vice City the latest entry on Curtis Jackson’s list of notable TV and film productions. As part of an overall deal with Starz, the rap icon directed, produced, and starred in the hit series Power (2014) and its sequels and spinoffs, including Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, and Power Book IV: Force. More recently, 50 Cent has been involved with the production of the BMF franchise and Fightland, also available on Starz.
Further information on Vice City is currently unavailable, and it’s unclear as to whether or not the series title will undergo any changes to avoid confusion with Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto VI: Vice City. Once released, 50 Cent’s Vice City will be available to stream on Paramount+.
