There is a new announcement regarding the cast of Ghostbusters 3, which is now under the title of Ghostbusters 2020. Paul Rudd will be joining a cast that includes many originals such as Sigourney Weaver, Bill Murray, and Dan Aykroyd.
Rudd is known for his role as Mike in Friends, and most recently as Ant-Man, or Scott Lang, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His other known roles include I Love You, Man, and Parks and Recreation. Rudd had a creative way to share to fans his new role:

Directed by Jason Reitman, son of the director responsible for Ghostbusters 1 and 2, the film is set to start production this year. The story is supposed to center around a younger generation fighting ghosts, which stars Finn Wolfhard of Stranger Things and McKenna Grace of Annabelle Comes Home. Carrie Coon of The Leftovers is also a new cast member. Rudd is supposed to play a teacher in the film to Wolfhard and/or Grace. On working with Rudd, Reitman stated:
I’ve been wanting to work with Paul Rudd since my short film opened for ‘Wet Hot American Summer‘ at Sundance. I’m thrilled he’ll be joining his new chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe.”
Despite these new announcements it hasn’t yet been confirmed whether or not Ernie Hudson will be joining the cast.
The original Ghostbusters came to theaters in 1984. The sequel, titled Ghostbusters 2, came out in 1989 but was met with a lukewarm reception. Perhaps that’s been the reason it took so long for any new Ghostbusters to be made. The franchise had a reboot in 2016, directed by Paul Feig, which restored some interest again and opened the door for Ghostbusters 2020.
The announcement of Paul Rudd has been met with a warm reception, despite some general doubt regarding the movie’s announcement. Aside from being a very talented actor, Rudd is definitely a safe choice since he is generally well-liked and action/comedy is on-brand for him.
