Atlus, the developer behind the popular Persona 5 video game series, has announced that it is expanding the Persona universe once again with a new mobile game for both iOS and Android. Titled Persona: Phantom of the Night, this game is being developed by Chinese studio Perfect World Games under supervision from Sega and Atlus.
Persona: Phantom of the Night will feature artistic contributions from Persona series designer Shigenori Soejima and will offer plenty of the trademark action from the fifth entry in the action-RPG series. The game’s first public test is scheduled for March 29, and interested players can view the trailers (via Gematsu) to get a better idea of what to expect.
Persona 5: The Phantom X Game Announced For iOS And Android
The gameplay of Persona: Phantom of the Night will follow a similar format to Persona 5, which is great news for fans of the series. Players will take on the role of a new high school student, balancing academic responsibilities during the day while engaging in stylish combat at night alongside classmates in a new Phantom Thieves gang. The game will mix traditional turn-based combat with maintaining a social life. The overall scope of the game is quite ambitious considering it is a mobile game.
Although the videos released do not reveal the monetization methods for this free-to-play title, it has been announced that item-based in-app purchases will be present. Hopefully, other gameplay features will not be locked behind paywalls left and right.
The Persona series has seen significant growth in recent years with numerous ports to current-gen systems and several spin-off games based on Persona 5, such as Persona 5: Strikers and Persona 5: Dancing in the Starlight. Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden have also been released on new platforms, and Persona 6 is reportedly in development. Additionally, Sega is considering developing a live-action Persona series in the future, thanks to the success of its Sonic the Hedgehog films.
