After the wild success of Atlus’ Persona franchise, it’ll come as no surprise that Atlus is already thinking about Persona 6. While it has not been formally announced yet, the studio has confirmed that the next chapter is in the works. The confirmation for Persona 6 comes via a recruitment page for the Japanese wing of Atlus. A handful of employees were interviewed about the future of the company, and this is how Persona 6 was confirmed. However, it will still be some time before fans see anything for the game.
Atlus director Naoto Hiraoka commented on how daunting the idea of Persona 6 is for the development team:
Thanks to the large amount of support we received for Persona 5, we have gotten a sense of accomplishment. But we can’t stop there. When we created Persona 4, there was pressure that it had to exceed Persona 3. Now, we will have to create a 6 which exceeds 5… However, exceeding 5 will be difficult with the current staff. I would like to surpass this tall hurdle with everyone who joins us in this recruitment. The workplace is perfect for those who want a creative challenge when it comes to bringing games to the world.”
There’s no official word on whether or not active development on Persona 6 has actually begun. But fans might want to stay glued to their social media pages for further information.
In the meantime, PlayStation 5 owners can play Persona 5 for free through the PS Plus Collection. Persona 5 Royal and Persona 5 Strikers are also available on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch as of this writing. There’s even a one-season anime inspired by the game on Hulu and Crunchyroll.
