Are you a fan of pixel art games in the style of Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, and a dab of Pokemon? Picontier may be right up your alley. You’re not going to collect monsters here, but the way the character moves may remind you of the early days in the Pokemon series. A “slow life RPG,” according to its developer, the game is currently in early access at Steam for PC and Mac. You can bag it for $19.99.
Picontier lets you live an island life where you will need to craft items and weapons. To do that, you will need to procure the materials needed that are available in and out of the island. There are also numerous monsters that you will encounter that are influenced by the time of the day. Aside from bringing in excitement, these monsters also have drops that you may need in crafting, so you better check your recipe. The Steam page describes the game as follows:
“Picontier” is a story of mystery and fascinating events that occur on an island as the main character, who awakens from a long sleep on the magical island, resumes life from scratch and meets many intriguing islanders. It is a ‘slow life RPG’ that unravels and reveals surprising twists.”
Farming also takes center stage in Picontier. You can grow crops and, at the same time, fish in the sea. There are also inhabitants on the island that you can socialize with. By talking or using your crafted items and weapons, you can interact with them and possibly forge various relationships within the game’s world.
According to Picontier’s developer, SKIPMORE and Kan.Kikuchi, they are launching early access to get feedback and adjust accordingly before they begin those final steps in development. The game has a planned early access phase of six months, with its full release in June 2021. Expect to have in-depth interactions, crafting, cooking with materials, fighting with enemies, fishing, raising livestock, and farming in the fields during this period. Additional content is already planned for this early access phase.
