Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire is about to send players from lush islands full of sand to an island covered in ice. The first big expansion DLC Beast of Winter releases in August and the developers gave fans a peak at what to expect.
Obsidian released a short teaser trailer for Beast of Winter. Though it doesn’t offer any details about the story, Narrative Designer Alex Scokel and Community Manager Aarik Dorobiala gave a more in-depth look at what fans can expect from the RPG DLC in an hour-long Twitch stream.
Far in the southernmost reaches of the Deadfire Archipelago, frost and death have encroached upon the land of the living. You, Watcher, have received a missive from the isle’s residents: worshipers of Rymrgand, the god of entropy and disaster. They call you Duskspeaker, a harbinger of the end, and pray you fulfill your destiny.”
The developers spent some time explaining their backgrounds at Obsidian and what it takes to get a job in gaming. They traveled the Deadfire Archipelago fighting rival ship captains and exploring islands before getting to details of Beast of Winter.
Along with a new area to explore, additional features, new class abilities and a new subclass. The first new area players travel to is called Harbingers Watch. Scokel explained a bit more on what it’s all about.
Harbinger’s Watch is a temporary settlement that has cropped up in the last couple of decades at the Dead Floe. The Dead Floe is an iceberg in the southern corner of the Deadfire where there probably shouldn’t be an iceberg. One of the reasons you’re there is to find out why the iceberg is there and why it is growing.”
The settlement is made up of homes and buildings created by wood from numerous ships. Players can find new gear and equipment as well. The developers showed off new chest armor, mask, items and blade called The Twin Eels.
There will not be an extension to the level cap and players will not have to had play Pillars of Eternity to understand what’s going on.
Pillars of Eternity II DLC Beast of Winter releases August second for $9.99. The same day, players can download the free DLC The Deck of Many Things.
