Pitch Perfect is making a major comeback! The film franchise moves to the small screen in a Peacock original series. A ‘Pitch Perfect’ TV show has been in the works as it was a straight-to-series order by Peacock and should release sometime in 2022. The show’s starring lead is Bumper Allen, Adam DeVine’s original villain-esque character from the Pitch Perfect movies. It has just been confirmed today that DeVine will be joined by former cast member Flula Borg from Pitch Perfect 2.
You might’ve seen Flula Borg most recently as Javelin in The Suicide Squad(2021). Borg joins the Adam DeVine Pitch Perfect spinoff show and reprises his role as Pieter Krämer. Krämer was a co-lead member of the German powerhouse group Das Sound Machine in PP2. If you’re unfamiliar with Pitch Perfect 2, Das Sound Machine was the rival European acapella group to Anna Kendrick’s character Becca’s team, the Barden Bellas.
According to Deadline, the show follows Bumper’s path several years after seeing him in the films.
“Borg’s Pieter is now a “discredited German music manager” who invites his old friend Bumper to come to Germany.Bumper moves to Germany to revive his music career when one of his songs becomes big in Berlin. Pieter has transitioned from German a cappella star to discredited German music manager. He signs Bumper as his only client and brings him to Berlin to pursue his dreams.”
The Pitch Perfect film franchise started in 2012 when the original film was released. Especially after the popularity of the “cup song,” Pitch Perfect was a hit among teens, tweens, and everything above and in between. Pitch Perfect 2 came out in 2015 and was even more successful than the first. Elizabeth Banks, who directed and starred in PP2, had a $29 million budget. According to an article by Variety, Pitch Perfect 2 ended up accumulating $287 Million worldwide and has the distinction of being the highest-grossing musical comedy film of all time. Pitch Perfect 3 came out in 2017 with less success than its predecessors. After producing all three films, Elizabeth Banks is now executively producing the ‘Pitch Perfect’ TV show.
